American backyard or nine-wicket croquet
Place the stakes in the ground at opposing sides of the playing field.
Set up the nine wickets in a pattern shaped like two diamonds with the
center wicket as the connecting point between the two diamonds.. There
are two wickets in a row at the opposing ends, in front of the stakes.
Backyard croquet can be played by 2,3,4,5, or 6 players divided into
two teams. The two teams begin at opposite sides of the playing field
by the stakes.
The order of play is according to the color of the ball and the order
it is in the colors on each mallet. Each turn, a player gets to hit
their ball with their mallet one time. Each time a player hits his/her
ball through a wicket, that player recieves one more hit. If a players
hits the ball of another player, they will also receive one more hit,
or the option of placing their ball next to the player's ball that was
hit, and knocking the other player's ball off course.
