Disc Golf
| [unknown placeholder $article.art_field4$] |
Disc Golf is very similar to regular golf. Instead of a golf ball you use a golf disc, instead of a golf club you use your arm and instead of 'holes' you use baskets. The object of the game is to throw the disc from the tee area to the target (known as a basket) in as few throws as possible. The ideal of course is a 'hole in one'. Just as in golf you have to use the right amount of strength to successful land the disc into the basket. If you throw too hard, the disc can bounce off the cage and fall on the ground. The Disc Golf baskets were designed by Ed Headrick in the 1970's. Over the years improvements have been made to these baskets which now have chains that drape from the top of the pole to the basket, helping to grab the disc and make it fall successfully into the basket. Specialized discs are now made and golf discs come in as many varieties as do golf clubs. There are golf discs that are putters, mid-range drivers, distance drivers and others. Disc Golf is a relatively recent sport and it has grown tremendously in the past few years; there are now many Disc Golf courses around the world (around 3000) yet you do not need a disc golf course to try this game out for yourself. You can set up your own course in your backyard by improvising targets as the baskets. And after some practice, you might want to find a nearby Disc Golf course or even join the PDGA (Professional Disc Golf Association).
Number of Players: 1 or more
Equipment: Flying Disc or Golf Disc (a Frisbee could also be used)
Object of the Game: To hit targets with a flying disc.
To Play: Chose 5 objects to be the Disc Golf "Holes" (E.g.: trees, fences, or poles make good targets). Mark a starting position (tee) and throw the Disc toward the first "hole:. If you do not hit the target on the first try, pick up your disc where it landed, and from that spot try again to hit the same target. Keep Track of how many throws it takes to hit each target. The Player with the lowest score after five "holes" is the winner.
